Podcasting...simplified!

Podcasting is like broadcasting for free. It is exciting to think that students can have their own radio type show on th internet! I loved using Audacity to get the podcast cleaned up...I liked seeing the sound wave pictures. It helped me to see how the inflections in our voices made a picture. It was fun to try to figure out what needed to be cut so that our podcast was under 1 minute.

If you have used podcasting before in your classroom, please share with me how it was received by the students. I would also like to know how you put them into groups to create their own podcast.
Thanks!

Podcasting in school

Parents give permission for their child's picture and name to be published at the beginning of the year. For many of the teaching tools that we have discussed, I would have to find out if any of my students have a form that says that they are not allowed to be published. To find out I need to find the list and determine if this effects any of my students. Podcasts are another way that students can reach out to others through the internet. But, if they are on the list, they shouldn't be on the podcast itself, but could still help with the planning and set up. How would you deal with a student who is on the not to be published list?

5,4,3,2,1....

Digital Video requires planning and still editing. In class we have learned that we need to take several steps to plan what we are going to film before we film it. The steps really help us to be ready to film and not waste too much film time. But, since we are dealing with humans, and I am in a group of all guys...and me....perfection is not going to happen the first time around. We will need to film the same scene several times, and we will need to edit to determine the best scene, and make it work for us the best way possible. Our group struggled to get our ideas down, filming should be a breeze in comparison! Let me know what you think is the most important aspect of editing!

Wiki wiki blog blog

As I bounce back and forth between the wiki that I have to edit, this blog to check comments and post new thoughts, and other blogs that I am watching...it is hard to believe that I am actually doing this! Just a few weeks ago I didn't know what a wiki or a blog was! Now I am involved in creating, commenting, editing, and reading both! In the next few weeks I have to create a lesson plan using a wiki or a blog. I have ideas for both, but don't know which would be the best to use for my first lesson with high school students. Do you have any ideas? Suggestions?

Wikis

As we are learning about Web 2.0 Tools, they are each different, but still a bit confusing to me. When I looked at the assignment to write on my blog for this week, it mentioned writing about wikis...and it said to write on my blog...and in my mind it all sounded like the same thing, so I thought I was done. But, that's not the case!

I like being able to have the control of the site on the blog that is mine. People can make comments, but they can't change what I have done. I don't like not being able to edit when I make a mistake. It is fun creating and making a website without having to know anything about html, uploading, etc. I can see using blogs to have students respond to thoughts, but I wouldn't have a lot of blogs to oversee if they each had their own...and could share their thoughts individually.

Wikis on the other hand offer a way for the class to work together (or a small group) to create a site. I can see using wikis with my class because I can see what each person contributes, but I only have one place to look for input. Each person that goes on the site will have to be involved, and share thoughts. I like the idea of working together, helping each other out, and having a group project when we are done.

Both web tools have their place, but right now wikis are my favorite choice when I think about using it with my class. What do you think?

Geometry in Our World

Looking at the slide show, I see something related to Geometry in every picture.

With a class blog I could get my students to comment on what they see in their world,
or in a slide show provided....

What do you see?

What other ideas do you have for Geometry and blogging?

Blog on Blogs

As I begin blogging, I realize that I have wondered for a long time what it meant when people said they were blogging. I wondered if it was related to a web log. I knew that I would never be doing it, so I really didn't need to know what it was. So, I would just listen, and nod my head ...but I can't do that anymore. I am taking a class that is requiring me to blog! I have a lot to learn, but this is a beginning!
